creaking front ksyrium SSC SL 2002mollythedog

While riding today I had a knocking noise coming from the front of my bike. At first I thought that it might be the stem and headset. Checked that and it seemed ok. The noise only happens when I stand up and put my weight on the front of the bike. When I am seated and pedaling there is no noise. after the ride i switched the front wheels to a campy chorus hub and a open pro rim. After the change the noise is gone. I probably have close to 1800 miles on the wheels. Could the hub loosen up or are the bearing shoot. any help would be great.
thanks

you might try and clean the contact surfaces between the fork and the front axle/hub. also apply a slight amount of grease in the drop outs of the fork

The silver bearing cap on the hub (with the small drilled holes needing the Mavic tool) need to be loosened off and the axle moved out of the way to permit you to grease the inside of the hubs lightly. Then re-tighten (just a LIGHT NIP) the silver cap
