Please help with creaking stem bolt/steerer tube problem...Old_school_nik

After taking nearly 2 weeks of rides to figure out where this was coming from (I thought it was coming from the BB but then noticed it didn't squeek when I rode no handed no matter how much I pounded on the pedals) I lubed the hell out of everything - does anybody grease the inside of the stem clamp or the middle of the bars where the clamp grips the bars? Is this stupid? The squeek is like Chinese water torture on long rides..please please help..

Cannondale caad 3 steerer tube old carbon fork with steel steerer... salsa new stem with removable faceplate..
Thanks,

Nik

Are the bars sleeved? The old Cinelli trick was to slither (technical term) a little oil between the bar and it's sleeve. That's usually the trick...

Good luck. I tracked a squeeky derailleur pulley for most of a summer once!

I had a similar problem and grease solved it. I greased the stem/bar interface and the stem/steerer interface. You shouldn't have any problems with them as long as you torque them down properly.
Thanks, I guess I'l add more grease.. and use a torque wrench..Old_school_nik
