I have a old Fuji with 27 inch rims amd wish to buy a wheelset thats 700c.Will it fit OK and will the brakes be spaced properly. The Fuji is nearly 20 years old but I like it and fits me well.
Borrow a set and see if they fit....TFerguson

Trying a set is the best way.
Brakes: Some older brakes have enough adjustment with the pad position to accomodate the different diameter rims, most don't.
Hub width: Is your frame spacing the same as the new wheels you are looking at. An old steel frame can be "re-spaced" but that's another question.
Freewheel/cassette: Does the new set match your existing set-up as far as number of gears, etc.?
Others on this site may be able to give you more spacific info, but these are the areas to check.
Most upgrades don't make economic sense.Spoke Wrench

It looks to me like you are getting ready to start down a slippery slope that can make a 20 year old bike cost as much as a new bike but still ride like a 20 year old bike. Unless you have an unusual reason for starting down the upgrade path (ie. you are 6'7" and the bike has a 27" frame) I wouldn't advise going there.
