Which Fork rake do I need?(3 posts)

Which Fork rake do I need?WiseGuy

I have a 1993 58cm Trek 2300 with the factory aluminum fork. I am considering upgrading to a Look HSC3 but I'm not sure if I need the 40 or 45 rake? I am happy with the handling on the stock setup, but I would like to know how to make the right choice? Will either rake work with my frame? If so, how would the bike be affected by the 40 or the 45?

Please advise!!!

Either one will work. Which is best will depend on the head angle of the bike. I think that bike probably had a 74d head angle. If it did I would go with the shorter rake. If it had a shallower head angle 73 I would go with the longer rake. A shorter rake will add stability to the bike for any given head angle.
Measure it or talk to TrekKerry

If you are careful, you should be able to measure the offset on your current fork. Just duplicate that. If you don't feel confident with measuring, try taking it to a shop to compare with different rake forks. You could also contact Trek and ask them what is on the bike now.
