New to the forum and reading daily, my knowlegde of our activity is ever expanding. My question concerns the professional performance. Assuming a 53 tooth chain ring, flat terrain, and calm conditions, which rear cog is used when the riders are at speeds of 45 to 50 kpm? Their ability to sustain such speeds over the distances ridden is truly amazing.
15 or 16 with cadence around 80-100. nmSpunout

50 kph, 100 rpm = 53/13
50 kph, 90 rpm = 53/12
45 kph, 100 rpm = 53/15
45 kph, 90 rpm = 53/13

Thanks for taking the time to compute. Even at 45kph, turning a 53/13 at 90rpm for four hour is inconceivable.

You can download it here: http://www.midcalracing.com/#Spreadsheet

It's in mph, though. You might need Excel on your computer to work it.
