Are IG chains wider than HG chains ?(3 posts)

Are IG chains wider than HG chains ?PeterRider

I got a used mtb with XT-9spd and a IG chain. My main problem is that the chain is rubbing with the next larger cog when in the smaller half of the cassette.
Also, I just installed a sram powerlink, and noticed that it is much harder to remove than the one on my road bike, it seems to me that it is harder to squeeze the plates together.

So my hypotheses are:
- is the IG chain wider than the HG chain that I should have ?
- should I put a spacer on the bb ? How are those spacers shaped ? The bb has a square end like shimano 8spd stuff, I guess it was an early version of the 9spd bb.

Thanks,

Pierre

IG chain is too wide. What does a spacer have to do with anything?Standard spacers are round 2mm aluminum rings that go between BB shell and bb flange on drive side.
Thx - yeah, this is a IG-31 chain, which is 8spd.PeterRider
