Deda Newton ---- The Real Deal(4 posts)

Deda Newton ---- The Real Dealp0seid0n
Sep 21, 2002 7:04 PM
Okay, i'm posting this message because I am getting ready to put my newton 31.7 combo on my new homebuilt Trek 5900. What I can't seem to figure out is what the deal with this thing is, it seems to tighten easily for me with minimal torque. Opinions seem to be gravely mixed with some saying it is great and others saying it is complete junk. What I want to know is what everyone else has to say? In particular it seems a lot of people bash this combo because so many teams use them. Well I think it is completely stupid to think that a team would use a part that was faulty just because they could replace it whenever they wanted!!! Think about it, if it was so bad than why did it never snap off at the end of a 7hr stage going 65mph down a French Alp? So I would appreciate any honest opinions about this setup. Thanks

it is a great stem/ bar. So is the Magic.
Ritchey just came out with 31.7 on all their road stems for 2003. I think it will become the new standard.
the crap reviews probably referred to the 26.0mm stem. nmweiwentg

Thats what i expected about the 26mm, also it seems many people who had problems actually had the first generation of the stems which Deda has told me have been officially recalled and the design 'perfected.' Thanks for your replies!
