|If you have a 30-pound bike, you just lean it against the wall and walk away. If your bike weighs 25 pounds, you have to have a five-pound lock to keep it. If you get the bike down to 18 pounds, you need two Kryptonites...
I don't know about the BEST, but a very convenient and (so far) secure one I've used for years is a super-flexible woven steel cable from REI, long enough to go through both wheels and around a tree, with a standard Master padlock. I think the cables are about $10 or $12 (I've had mine since the early '90s), and you can get the locks anywhere. Not too heavy, and they'll roll up easily to go into a jersey pocket or seat bag.
