Has anyone switched from speedplays...RideOn

I know many riders who have switched from other
pedals to speedplays. Has anyone switched from speedplays to another pedal system and been happy with the change?

if you can't get used to the free float, you probably aren't alone, and should switch. I hear the pro-fits are good: Look-sized platform, much lighter, and you can't go wrong with Campy (or Campag). if you're willing to put up with a small platform (carbon shoes should do it), and you also have an MTB, you could use egg beaters with the road cleats. pedal choice is very personal.

I am in the proces of replacing muy old look pedals and Sppedplay was suggested. I do not like the lateral move of the Look red cleats. Could you please explain how the free float works? I also hear that the Profit are hanging nose dive and you need some practice to flip them over to engage the cleat. .

After reading all the rave reviews, I broke down and spent $150 on some Speedplay X2s last spring. I used them for two weeks and started getting knee discomfort almost immediately. After two weeks, my knees were really hurting and I took them off and returned them to REI for a refund. I liked the way they functioned and had no trouble with the float, but they apparently just didn't agree with my knees.

Before the speeds, I had been using Look 247s for some time, and have gone back to them. Except for the occasional squeak, I like the Looks. Just make sure you buy some cleat covers or you will be forever buying new cleats.

I switched from Speedplay road pedals to Speedplay Frogs--I got the Frogs for my mtb and liked them better than the road pedals. So I put them on all my bikes. They also just came out with a new Frog cleat which is much improved. Before Speedplay I'd ridden Look, Time and Shimano. I'm curious to try the Coombe pedals.

I tried Speedplays for a while as my first road pedal. I used spd's on everything before that. Then I tried a pair of Looks. Loaned the speedplays to a buddy months ago and about forgot what happened to them, 'cause I'm just gonna sell them if he gives them back. I didn't like the floating feeling and the all-too-easy release.
YMMV,
