loose Zipp hubs(3 posts)

loose Zipp hubstemplecat

My wife bought me a set of Zipp 303's for my birthday
(lucky me!). I notice when the front wheel is clamped on the fork there is quite a bit of wiggle when I try to move the wheel from side to side. In my bearing-packing days this meant the races were not tight enuf on the bearings.
I called Zipp & they said this is normal & causes long lasting bearings. Of late when I brake there is disturbing chatter & it seems that there is more play. The rear wheel is a little looser than when I first put it on too. The hubs don no look adjustable. Anyone had similar experience?
thanks

Joe

You are defintely fortunate to have a wife that purchased you a set of Zipp, I too was equally fortunate as my wife allowed to purchase a set as well.

I have also noticed from day one that there is lateral movement with the front hub and once again Zipp advised that this is by design. I have not expierenced the braking chatter but my wheelset as mine iss the Clincher version. Whereas yours may me the 303 tublar and chatter could ocurr possibly due to your brake pads etc.

Good Luck and let me know is you solve the problem. May I suggest that you contact Zipp with respect to the braking problem.

Enjoy the Ride

they use cartridge bearings that you dont adjust. i'd check your headset to make sure its tight. that is the biggest cause of chatter.
