|I'm building up a new bike and was considering both posts. I've heard that the Alien post is prone to slipping and the clamp is a PITA to make adjustments with. I've also heard that if you need a 27.2mm post, one should get the 25mm post instead and use the shim provided. Anyone confirm this?
I haven't read or heard much regarding the Deda blackstick. Any thoughts or advice. I'll be building up a Calfee Tetra. Thanks.

|i needed a 32.4 post for my merak and bought the blackstick.
great looking post, one piece carbon with light clamp on top.
it uses a similar clamp to the campy post (i think) very easy to set up.
i've never had trouble with it slipping and it is very light (esp. the magnesium version, i have the standard alloy clamp)

|I am riding with the 25mm USE Carbon post and a 26.8 shim. The only reason you might want to use the 25mm post instead of the 27.2 is if you have an internal wedge type seat clamp. The hard surface of the shim doesn't dent like the softer surface of the carbon post. I will agree that the setup can be difficult but if you are satisfied with a seat position on a different seatpost, measure the angle and setback and transfer that position to the seat on the USE post before tightening the little screws.|
