Ksyrium freehub problem .. need help/advice12x23

My freehub skips, just for an instant and intermittently, with a bit of slip as if it's about to give way, on short, steep rollers under max effort. It is a very brief, gear-mesh-then-engage with a little slip, sort of noise. It has just become a problem the last couple of weeks, and I'm losing confidence in my K's when I have to stand and climb.

I know for certain it isn't chain skip .. der stops/cable tension are correct, and chain and cassette are recently replaced. Shifting is perfect.

Is this a Mavic freehub problem that is easily remedied? I've experienced this with my Classic Pros a very few times when engaging the freehub under light or moderate effort after coasting, but I've never had the $&*! scared out of me like I have with the K freehub recently.

I recently purchased a set K's and experienced a very similar problem. Rode it for a couple of hundred miles before I convinced the LBS into checking out the freehub. Turns out that one of the pawl springs was missing (never installed). The LBS wrench modified a spring from something else that works real good except for the fact that it's a bit stronger and therefore the freewheel noise is pretty loud. I should be getting the replacement spring from Mavic next week.

Good Luck,

I'm gonna have it checked to see. I feel like the problem is in the freehub.

The problem I had was when under pressure, i.e. steep hills and low gears, there would be an occasional pop and slip of maybe an 1/8 of an inch that was transmitted through the crank. Oddly enough it also did it occasionally with soft pedalling and high cadence. The bottom line is that since a spring was installed, it hasn't happened a single time and that was about 800 miles ago.

Good Luck,

Souns like your cassette isn't tightening up. This has happen to me with other wheels, I just cleaned and re-tighten the cassette lock ring.
Nope. The cassette is tight and12x23

I'm using the spacer per instructions with Shimano cassette. It does sound like pawls failing (or slipping) to engage. I gotta get this fixed, these wheels have been perfect otherwise.
