|my merckx is indeed a 56 cm with a 56 top tube. the head tube is 150mm. it was originally the same color as the bike you are looking at. the paint was never an issue. i only had a couple of spots (my fault!) on the original paint. i wanted a new frame but couldn't bear to part with the merckx, so i had it repainted. it was reasonably priced versus buying a new frame! i get compliments wherever i go with it! i'm going to retire it at the end of the year! that will be 7 years of service and about 60,000 miles. it will be used on the beer ride only!
the carbon fork is stiffer but actually improved the handling of the frame. it's more balanced now. the frame is plenty stiff, but i always wanted the front end to be as stiff as the rear. the profile BSC gave me this. on rough roads, i can't tell a difference is the ride quality between the old steel and the carbon.
the carbon fork also has a shallower rake, which shortened the wheelbase ever so much.

|At 60,000 miles, I believe you have gotten your money's worth out of the frame. The frame I am looking at was a replacement under a warranty claim. The owner had built up another frame by the time he got a replacement. So the frame is new. The fork has been used, but he had replaced it with a carbon model soon after buying the frame, so it's got very little wear.|| |
