|Kevlar emergency spokes||PaulCL|

|Reading the thread below, the emergency spoke idea caught my eye.
I broke a spoke for the first time in years a few weeks back. Since my rear wheel has 24 spokes and the front has only 18, the emergency spoke sounds like a good idea. Has anyone used these with success?? The only place I see them for sale is some small shop out of Canada, anywhere in the good ole USA??
And, last but not least, for those of you that have used these...how long can you ride on them? If I broke a spoke, generally, I would turn around and head home. But when I broke a spoke recently, it was only five miles into my usual early morning 35. I hated to quit. Any input??

|you can actually damage your wheel if you over tighten it. I was riding with my wife when she broke a spoke. I used the kevlar string, and just tighten it till the wheel became true. We rode another 30 miles with no problem. She did her normal speed, and took it easy on the corners. Got home, replaced the spoke, and the string is re-usable. |
I don't want to say you can ride all day on this as it only happen once, but it will sure get you out of a pinch.
