Any experience with FIR rims/wheels(7 posts)

Any experience with FIR rims/wheelsigorn
Aug 14, 2002 9:47 AM
Friend told me that in local bike shop there are pair of FIR rims on sale (looks like a great deal), but he was not sure what model is it.

I look at their web site and it appears as a great stuff...

I just wondering if any of you folks have some riding experience with FIR???

Thanks in advance.

I've used FIR Pulsar tubulars, FIR MT122 mountain bike rims and Spinergy SR3 wheels from 2001 that have a 30mm deep FIR rim.

I think they make a pretty good product that has held up well for me. Not too many people I know have ever heard of them so I'm not sure what type of response you'll get.

I do know that one of the local shops that sponsors a velodrome uses only FIR rims and swears by them.

I have tried to get info on Fir Rims and wheels. I have gotten no responses. However, what I have heard appears to be positive.

I built a set of wheels with Fir rims and was not impressed with the rims. Velocity rims are much nicer to build wheels with. The firs would not build up true with even tension. The Fir rims were much harder to mount a tire on, I don't think there was as much drop in the center.
I built a pair of FIR Zeniths. Found them very easy.dzrider

They were very close to perfectly round and true before any tension was applied to the spokes so all I had to do was tighten the spokes without screwing things up. My wife, who wanted them for their color, has yet to put enough miles on them to evaluate them for durability but I've had no trouble mounting tires and no black streaks at the seams.

I have a pair of these wheelsets. They are akin to Campag Neucleons - similar look and weight, yet have less spokes. They are light and strong. I like them because not many people have them - I guess that can be a positive or a negative I guess.

their rims are unbeatable. well made, perfectly round, fully eyeletted, strong and attractive. reasonable weight and price.

i have a set of SC 170's laced 36x and use them as a tour, train, fast ride wheelset and am very happy. i wanted one wheelset that does it all and everything that i had read and was told by wheelbuilders with considerable experience directed me to FIR. ive also never had better braking and would recommend them above any other similar rim.

they also come in red :-)
