|has anyone experienced this problem?
My headset (dura ace-stock, came with the bike, trek 5500) becomes loose after a few rides. I retighten the headset but I can not tighten the locknut enough to make the headset stay inplace. The locknut won't go any further and as a result the headset eventually becomes loose again.
Its about 10 years old. I haven't taken it apart yet but I know it was serviced recently and the bearings were fine. Is it possible to crush the cups by hitting a pothole?

|I don't know how you could have arrived at this situation, unless the bike has always done this, but it sounds like a spacer between the locknuts is in order. The top lock nut may be bottoming out on the top of the fork before it cinches on the bottom locknut.|

|It seems that a spacer would allow the top lock nut to "do it's job" over the bottom one. It is odd that one day extra space showed up.
