bought a new bottom bracket and...tlcs

The retention nut is plastic, is this how they are now. Is anybody having problems with these? It is a Shimano un 72.

The part that you are talking about is really just a spacer that keeps the cartridge from tipping when you put pressure on the pedals. I would expect the UN52 spacer to be nylon and the UN72 spacer to be aluminum. Look at the markings on the cartridge itself. It should clearly say which one it is.

To answer your question, I'm not aware of that part ever having been a problem.

You are talking about the 'lockring' on the left side??The ones im my parts box are metal.I have plastic on less expensive shimano cartridge bb that have cracked.
