BB Question - English/ItalianEager Beagle
Jul 29, 2002 7:20 AM
Can anyone out there give me the TPI (threads per inch) spec for the two BBs? I have a frame and I need to know what BB it takes (unless there is another cunning trick that anyone knows to sex them)?

TVM.

English and Italian are both 24 tpi. Most current frames are English , unless they are made in Italy or for an Italian co. An oddity would be a Merckx (Belgian) Ti made by litespeed in the US but with Italian threads. They always wanrt to confuse us. What brand of frame are you asking about?

531 steel, make in the UK circa 1980 at a guess. So you might thing that it would be English BB right? Not. Spoke to the makers, who said that they used all kinds of mixed up stuff back then, and it could be anything.

Funny thing is - on the tpi front - tried a campy BB, and the threads wouldn't fit??
English is 1.37", Italian is 36 mm (nm)Kerry
