Can I run a triple Dura Ace front DR with Ultegra triple STI shifters?(5 posts)

Can I run a triple Dura Ace front DR with Ultegra triple STI shifters?yfoiler

I am going to use an FSA Gossemer triple crankset on my tandem.
I have a new Dura Ace "triple" front deraileur I would like to use.
I know the Ultegra STI can be set up for a triple crankset, but will it work well with the Dura Ace triple front DR that I already have, or do I have to get an Ultegra triple front DR?

TIA,

Marty

The D/A triple front derailleur is designed to run with 53-39-30 chain rings. If your middle ring is bigger than a 39 you might have a problem, I don't know, but it's something to consider. The Ultegra front derailleur is designed for 52-42-30 rings. Generally you can run rings that are somewhat smaller than the derailleur's design, but not necessarilly the other way around.

This will be interesting then.
The FSA cranks come with 54, 42, 30.
I can change them later if it doesn't work out...or I guess it would be cheaper to get an Ultegra front DR.

Thanks,

Marty
