mavic brake shoe replacement help(2 posts)

mavic brake shoe replacement helpgamara
Jul 19, 2002 10:43 PM
Just bought an old set of mavic brake calipers, similiar to the cane creek's with internal springs. Does anyone have any experience with replacing the cartridge brake shoes and how to overhaul the calipers themselves? Thanks.

Those are similar to the old Superbe Pro calipers and were made by Dia-Compe, I think. They are a real pain to work on and I am sure that there are no spares available unless Mavic has them. Mavic was real good about having parts available, you should have a dealer contact them or try yourself. Leave the calipers alone unless something is wrong. The brake pads, if not available from Mavic, will have to come off some old shops shelf. They were next to impossible to get in the early 90's. I am still using some from then and they are not too hard yet. The pad holder is special to that model caliper and the pads were not replaceable in the holder, speaking about the Suntours, that is.
