Chain rub(5 posts)

I just got my new bike mail order (Iron Horse Victory) and it's great. But I'm experiencing some chain rub while in the smaller front chanin ring against the larger chanin ring(It's a double Ultegra). It's not rubbing the der cage, I made sure. Any one know what to do or look for in this case. I'd sure hate to mail it back just to do something simple if I can help it.

Seems to be a common complaint with Ultegra. My 02 Lemond Zurich does the same. I too would like to know how to correct this.

Many people place a small spacer behind the BB cup on the drive side. This moves the whole crank out and helps give running clearance. Is the chain a Shimano 9 speed, they are narrower than others and may help with the clearance. A standard 8-sp inner ring may help that problem, but would possibly cause another.

This topic has been discussed several times in the past few months. The quick and dirty fix is a 2mm spacer behind the fixed cup. If you email me your address, I'll send you one. A little more elegent (and expensive) solution is to use an XTR bottom bracket. An XT or LX bottom bracket won't work because the splines are different.

Yea, that 2mm plate sound like what I'm looking for! Thanx alot. I'll just have the dealer send me one. It's a lot better than sending the whole bike back. Thanx
