|I have a Spec Allez with 105 all around. Front crank is 175 triple. I'd like to slowly start to upgrade to Ultegra on this bike, but upgrade to just double front crank. Can I mix and match triple and double parts; ie, can I put a Ultegra double crank and and still use the 105 rear derailer and the 105 STI triple shifters? This will most likely be a long process and I'd like to just add these parts as I see them at a good price (or they break).
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

|Moving to a double crankset, however, you'll also want to change out your front derailleur at the same time. Since this component is not that expensive, it should be done with the crankset upgrade. Also, while you are at it, you may want to change out the chain. You did not say what the chainring are you are currently using, but I suspect you'll want to go with the standard 39/53 double set up. Make certain you have the chain length correct when you change out the cranks.
