I'm riding on Conti GP 3000's and have much more wear on the rear than the front tire. Should I rotate my tires or do I need to replace my rear tire? Thanks!

Ride the rear till its used up, move the current front to the rear, place new tire on front... Typically (at least in my experience and this will probably vary with rider weight, road conditions, etc), I get about 1/3 the wear on the front as the rear. I like having my best rubber up front.

I've always taken the worn out back off, put the front on the back and a new tire up front. This system always seem to get the best mileage on my tires. I guess you could, in the future every couple of hundred miles rotate from front to back but that's a lot of work to me for little benefit. I wouldn't put a worn out tire on the front. First of all, it's probably square which would give you poor handling. Second, I would want the steering tire in as good shape as possible especially in the rain.

So I put about 300 miles on a tire before I put it up front. That's just enough to make a small flat section and make me feel sure that the tire's not defective. Just one extra change per tire using the same basic pattern you outlined.

I just chuck the rear when I start getting flats on a reguar basis. Often I'll replace both and save the less worn front for a training wheel replacement. If you gotta just get one tire then use the good rubber up front and move the front to the rear. You'll probably recover from a rear wheel skid but not from a front wheel skid. Personally my safety seems worth more frequent tire replacement.

Unless you are very heavy or are riding a tandem, front tires essentially don't wear at all. If you weigh a front tire after several thousand miles, there will be MAYBE 5 grams of weight loss, while the rear will have lost 10-15% of its weight. If you leave a front tire on while replacing the rear, the front with crack and get crumbly with age, also a bad situation. Keep the good rubber on the front - when the back wears out, move the front to the back and put new rubber on the front, simple as that.
