|Bottom Bracket noise?||funknuggets|

|How does one go about diagnosing a bottom bracket issue? There is a sound... not a creak, not a spoke pop, but more of a dull thunking sound that basically happens when I am standing and climbing. I cannot reproduce the sound when I am off the bike. I just wanted to know how to test whether or not I am having an issue with the BB. Could it simply be a lube issue?

|I had a similar problem and it has been solved with more lube. my first bottom bracket done 8000km without maintenance and no play. you may think it was Dura Ace , but the only inscripton I remember is "Bottom Bracket".
check also if your cranks arms are properly tighten.

|Grab the end of the crank (by the pedal) and wiggle it like you were trying to rotate it through the frame triangle. Try this at several locations around the revolution of the cranks. Use this method to check for play in the pedals as well. If there is play in the BB (assuming the crank arms are properly tightened on the BB axles), then you need to either tighten or replace the BB. Tighten if the cups are not torqued to spec or the unit is adjustable. Replace otherwise. If there is no play, then remove the BB, clean all threads, grease all threads, reassemble with proper torque. All this assumes that the problem doesn't lie elsewhere, like a hub, hub skewer, cassette body, loose cassette lock ring, etc.|

|I remember that I had a loosen seatpost that was broking and the noise seems to be at the headset. look for a good mech.
where I am living some stores receive the bike and they go for a small ride to identify the problem.
