Lower front derailleur on Trek 5200(3 posts)

Lower front derailleur on Trek 5200mjbmx5
Jun 13, 2002 8:19 AM
I am using a 48 chainring and need to lower the front derailleur more than the "braze-on" will let me. Does Shimano or Trek make a different "braze-on" - (actually bolts on) that will left me lower the derailleur or does anyone know where I can find a 1 1/2" (38mm) clamp-on adapter or a derailleur will a 1 1/2" clamp that will work with STI?

Thanks
Mark

I'm familiar with the problem and don't have a solution for you. But I do recommend that you not put a clamp-on derailleur on that carbon fiber frame.
Maybe you could have a good machine shop make a replacement hanger with a lower slot in it.

How much lower do you need it?TJeanloz

If you only need it ~1 or 2mm lower, you could file the slot with a rat-tail file, just be sure you leave enough material at the bottom to hold the derailluer on.
