Newer style Campagnolo hubs - a giant leap forward or?unchained

I'm debating about what hubs to use on a lugged steel bike with Campagnolo C Record. Are the new hubs with oversized axles and other changes much better than the old (assuming the bike is not ridden in the rain)?

I would like to keep the bike period correct, but a change that enhances the peformance of the bike is always worth considering.

Thanks in advance.

You're not going to improve on the rolling friction of Campy C Record, which was not an improvement (rolling friction) over Nuovo Record, which was not an improvement over Record. C Record technical improvement was better protection of the bearings from contamination. Current Campy hubs are lighter, and maybe a bit better bearing protection. That's the functional difference.
