I've found several good (maybe not unbelievable) deals in the last year. Continental Supersonic tires for $30 each. Selle Italia SLR for $49. Thomson Elite seatpost for $49. USE Alien Carbon Seatpost for $99. Of the approx. 10 items I bought, I'm sure I participated in over 30 auctions trying to get them at a price I liked. It only worked out 1/3 of the time.

Keep in mind that a number of ebayers build up PayPal account balances as they sell stuff. They then use that to buy new stuff. It is often easier and seen as using free money when they purchase using ebay and PayPal, even if the price is the same or slightly higher than at the LBS. Its like trading your stuff for someone elses stuff. The LBS won't let you do that. Also, there are plenty of folks who can't find stuff locally so they buy from ebay. No sales tax on items bought on ebay so if shipping is less than your local tax, it may make sense.

And then sometimes people are just nuts and pay more than what they should. . . . . . .

Regards,

schills

I seel and buy a lot on Ebay - as fara s I am concerned it one of the best places to get clothes parts used frame, bikes etc.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS ALWAYS, check the feedback
ratings of sellers in detail and you can't go wrong - often they ship faster than the cheap mail order houses.

its the only place for jesrseys and clothes -just know exactly what you are buying too - if you are new to cycling or aren't fa,iliar with equipment I would not go EBAY however,

Sure. Tons of them. I just got a Deore Hollowtech crankset (I know, not top of the line, but I didn't have to switch BB's and my wife will never care) brand new in the box for $12 last week! Not too shabby. Turned out to be the wrong color, but hey, for $12, who cares?!

I also got a great deal on her bike in the first place. It's a K2 EVO full suspension, XTR/SRAM drivetrain, RS dual crown fork (which I swapped for a brand new Manitou X-vert for the same price). Real super light brake levers w/Avid archrivals, Mavic Crosslink wheelset, etc... Less than 50 miles on the bike, not a single scratch even from cable rub. $450. Hard to beat that. It made a great Christmas present!

I recently saw an old Rockshox fork (like 5 years old with WAY outdated technology) with bids of over $400. Somebody either made a big mistake or was playing a big (not so funny) joke.

Unfortunately, I recently bought some new Dura Ace 9 speed shifters for $25 (for my aerobars). The package arrived torn in half (what kind of idiot packages shifters in a priority mail ENVELOPE?!) with an apology from the USPS. Fortunately, they were insured, but I think if the guy doesn't hurry up, I'm just gonna want my money back (I think he's stalling because he wants to give me my money back too... I really want those shifters though. They're the last crucial part of my total overhaul/upgrade to 9speed! I can't start without them...)

I bought a part form pricepoint.com and never used it. Sold it on e-bay for than I paid for it, plus got free shipping from my company.

You must know the pricing and be very patient. Not everything is available at a bargain price. I've purchased a Giro Pneumo, Pearl Izumi clothing, and a HRM at good prices.

Watch shipping charges and charges for using credit cards.

I got a wheelset that was new for 82 bucks. The build was as follows
Mavic Open 4 CD rims
32 3 cross 15 gauge spokes
Shimano 600 hubs

The guy only lived 20 miles from me so I didn't have to pay shipping.
Use the "New Today" feature..Dave Hickey

I use the NEW TODAY feature and look for "Buy It Now" items. Items listed under NEW TODAY won't show up in a normal search.

You just have to set your price and stick to it. Lots of people apparently get carried away during the bidding and pay too much. But you can get some great deals. EBay is a particularly good place to buy and sell saddles. Why pay full retail for a saddle that you might find out doesn't fit the second time you ride it? Here are some saddles (all very good or new condition) that I've gotten on eBay -- Selle Italia Max Flite Gel ($22), SI TransAm Max ($50 with Buy It Now), San Marco Regal ti ($38). If the saddle doesn't fit, you haven't invested as much money and can probably resell it for about the same price on eBay. For the same reason, it's a great place to get stems.

Just picked up a Polar S710 HRM (suggested retail $309) and the infared interface (SR $40) for $265. I am very pleased.

like everyone else said, you have to know what you are looking for and what is a good price for it. if the price is close to what i would pay for it online or in a shop, then i go to the online place/lbs b/c i know i can return it. i did see one seller with a bunch of auctions for pearl izumi microsensor shorts with a buy-it-now of only $65. i couldn't get myself pull the trigger b/c i had just bought a bunch of other stuff. i've also seen tires and saddles at great prices.
