Fair price for STI Shifters?(5 posts)

Fair price for STI Shifters?Matno

I bought a set of Dura Ace downtube shifters on EBay for my 9-speed upgrade project, but they got lost in the mail. Guy says he's working out the insurance details to get me another set, but said if it takes too long, he'll just refund the money. (Sounds to me more like he's thinking of pocketing the extra cash since the auction didn't go as high as he wanted - $25). Anyway, if that falls through, my buddy has a set of basically new 105 STI take-offs from a tandem he bought last year. They've just been sitting in his garage and he hasn't tried to sell them, but I don't want to look dumb if I offer him too little. How much would be a fair price? Would that change if you factor in that he owns his own physical therapy clinic and I'm a starving first year med student with a wife and daughter? :) I really can't afford more than $40-50. Thanks.

I would say, without cables, warranty, cable stops, etc., that they would be worth $75-100. See what other people say, that may be a little high. Good luck.
