Campy Electron wheels..successor or clearance?(2 posts)

Campy Electron wheels..successor or clearance?alecf

Last year, on a tight budget I bougt only a rear Electron wheel with the intention of buying a front to match when I could next afford it... unfortunately, it looks like Campy discontinued the line..

So I'm looking for one of two things:
1) the successor to the Electron, if any. It looks to me like maybe the Proton, just judging by look and price? The Electron came with what were claimed to be Chorus hubs, but according to branford, the Proton hubs "are Daytona/Centaur quality" and do look different from my Electron hub (which has straight-pull spokes and a plastic shell) - actually they look closer to the Neutron hubs.

2) a place that still has electrons, that I can just get me a new Electron front wheel, maybe even on clearance :)

thanks

I don't think you'll find any new Electrons: I tried a few months back when they were being discontinued and my only source sold its last set before I could send him the money.

I think the Neutrons will be the wheels you're seeking. Neutrons are a direct replacement for Nucleons. Electrons fell between Protons on the low end and Nucleons on the higher side. There is no direct replacement for Electrons.

For what it's worth, I have a set of Protons and am very pleased with them. If price is a concern, you'd do well to pick up just a front Proton wheel.
