Changing fork....can I do this?cyclejim

I'm considering buying a 2001 Jamis Quest which has a cromoly fork. The 2002 comes with a carbon fork with an alloy steerer. Because this frame is steel, does the steerer have to be alloy or can I go with a full carbon fork with no worries?
use anything you want...C-40

Frame material has nothing to do with the selection of fork material. Just beware to the 2cm spacer limit on 1" carbon steerer forks (if it's a 1" diameter steerer). Also are you saving enough on the 2001 model to justify spending the additional $ on a full carbon fork?
thanks...im saving quite a bitcyclejim

The 2001 I can get for $989 + tax, so I think that would make it worthwhile. The 2002 comes with a carbon fork and alloy steerer for around $1250 retail.
