Problem With Cateye Astrale(4 posts)

Problem With Cateye Astraleosc

I went biking a few days ago and it started to rain hard. Soon after the Astrale went on the fritz and started displaying inaccurate information. Today I was on my bike and noticed that the Astrale was still not working correctly. Is there a quick fix or do I need to buy a new wiring harness?

I've been using a Cateye Astrale for well over a year now and, though I am pleased with it, it doesn't handle wet very well. I've had these same problems.

Likely, you have some kind of oxidation process occurring on the tiny metal contacts. Take something like a pencil eraser and give them a good scrubbing. It should work just fine.

To prevent malfunctions, I've been told you can use any kind of water displacer (like a touch of WD-40) or even some vaseline on the contacts to keep the water from messing things up.

Love the computer but it does not like dampness. I live in an area that is usually foggy and damp in the morning and once the contact points get wet it doesn't work very well. If I do a morning ride I just take it off periodicly and wipe it off.

As for a solution, a plastic baggy with a rubberband around it will do the trick if you know you will get wet ahead of time.

The sasme has happened to me. Just let it dry out and make sure the contacts are clean and you should be fine. I've been using it for over a year and only happened once.
