Fork upgrade?(2 posts)

Fork upgrade?Matno

Is there any reason to upgrade my stock steel fork (old Schwinn Supersport w/ Columbus tubing)? I certainly don't want a stiffer ride - if anything, the more shock absorption the better. Some of the carbon forks look really cool, but are they worth the money for a non-racer, occasional tourer like myself?

I'm with you on the all steel bikes! Both my road bikes are steel all the way :) Okay, on to an answer of your question. A carbon fork will be even more forgiving than the steel one, with some added strength (debateable). It will give you some stiffness in turns too. Right now, you're probably at the best time on carbon forks. You can get them for as low as $99 all the way up to $350! Just find one that's right for you.
