Sticky Downshifting (Front)(3 posts)

Sticky Downshifting (Front)goldsbar

Hi, I have 1995 Shimano 105 components with a fair amount of miles. The front shifter often sticks when I try to downshift (i.e. the handle moves but the front derailleur doesn't move). A few clicks of the shifter usually solves the problem. The spring tension on the drailleur is still strong. Do I need to lubricate something or change the cable? Is this fixable?

Buy yourself a whole new set of cables and housing - you'll be amazed at the difference it makes. At the age of your bike don't try and just do the cable and save the housing. After a while the housing gets grooves worn in it.

You may have worn a tight groove in the plastic piece under the bb that guides the FD cable. They ar cheap, replace it when you do the cables.
