Untegra brakes don't fit fork - help(5 posts)

Untegra brakes don't fit fork - helpJayTor
May 23, 2002 10:48 AM
I just got a new set of Ultegra brakes for a bike I'm putting together for my son and the bolt that goes through the front fork is not long enough (short by about 1/2"). The fork is a Reynolds Ouzo Pro. Is this a common problem? Is there an easy fix?

Thanks,
Jay

Jay, typically carbon forks come with a longer brake nut. Carbon forks are deeper across that section than steel forks. If your fork didn't or doesn't come with the necessary long brake nut, your LBS might have them in stock. Call around to see. If no one has that nut, one an be ordered, through the LBS, from QBP (Quality Bike Parts). It's called a Problem Solvers (brand name) Brake Mounting Nut, part number B01500. It is shown on page 283 of the QBP 2002 catalog. Long brake nuts are fairly common and you shouldn't have a big problem finding one.

That makes sense. Thanks for your quick reply.

Also check with your LBS. I was in the same situation when I built my 5900. The nut both front and back were to small. The seatstay on the OCLV bikes is as nearly as thick as the fork and I had to get a couple of those longer nuts. If you have a good shop, they should have them. If it's a trek dealer they definitely will..

That fork is shipped with the proper nut, chek with the seller that hosed you. Also look in the box better.
