please excuse my ignorance, but ... i just bought a new set of wheels and i want to put tires on them. are there any secrets to using rim tape? i'm assuming i simply need to pick some up at my bike shop and line the inside of the wheel before putting on the tires. anything else?

Yep, that's about it. Get the velox tape. It's a bit heavier but much better in the long run.
Second the Velox! nmKEN2

What makes it so much better? Rim tape has always seemed to be a "put it on and forget about it" kind of thing. Does it really make a difference? How? Pardon my ignorance...

After slowly replacing my old tape (some weird blue plastic-like crap), section by section with duct tape as the tape wore thru and left the spoke holes open. It was just a mess. This stringy blue crap, seemed like woven plastic threads, just sort of dissolved. Velox is much sturdier and thicker, it wont turn into duct tape in 1500 miles either.
Ah Hah! So you CAN use duct tape!Matno

Don't mess around with any other rim tape, use the
best VELOX.
