Basic question on wheels(3 posts)

Basic question on wheelskinclune
May 13, 2002 7:52 PM
I am buying my first road bike as I am tired of riding 100+ miles on a mtn bike. I weigh about 200 lbs. I am not a racer (obviously), but hope to do a century this summer.

I want a steel bike with 105 components, and am looking at Jamis Quest, Bianchi Imola, and Marin Verona. Quest has Mavic Cosmos wheels, Bianchi and Marin have CXP21.

What is the difference, performance wise and price wise, between these wheels???
more wheels to consider...I'm looking as wellwulf

Sorry to be a vulture on your topic kinclune - I just want to add a couple more wheelsets to the list so I don't dup. the subject....and that may be options for you as well.

I've got CXP23s, I'm new to cycling this year, loving it/getting addicted, and am riding about 5-6 days a week, 25-35mi each of those days. I don't even know where 23s fit in the quality/durability echelon, but my rear wheel has already been out of true once (not too bad - I was able to fix myself with a spoke wrench and an hour of my time).

I've been pricing Cosmos, and Cosmic Elite 2s (at totalcycling), both well within my pricerange at around $3bones. Any recommendations between these two, or alternatives to them in the same range?

These might be options for kinclune as well....again, sorry for being a scavenger...

Thanks.
Wulf

Your 23s are damn good rims - a fact I am sure you would discover upon purchasing heavier, not-particularly aero Cosmos or Cosmics. I am sure someone will disagree with me but based on my admitedly limited knowledge about the Mavic wheels in question, you would not be making an upgrade by replacing the CXP23s with Cosmos or Cosmics.
