I have a 6501 and to the best of my knowledge, there is no backlight feature.

Got it August of last year and have about 3,000 miles in the UK's wet and cool conditions where I can and do ride everyday. I like the unit although I just replaced the transmitter battery for the second time last week (I accept that the factory supplied battery had minimum life). I got it for the virtual cadence and the gear indicators which work faultlessly. It's hear that the TI part of STI actually have some meaning. All other functions are also good except for the stop watch function which is limited to 90 minutes. What are they thinking about?

I also have ErgoBrain, which does have a backlight, but I much prefer the FlightDeck as the gear display and numbers, both small and large, are bigger and the display itself is not so busy. Also, the virtual cadence is great and does not require the separate sending unit used by the ErgoPower. Virtual may not be exact but it's close enough for this rider.

The two things I don't like about the FlightDeck is that you can't, or I can't find, replacement straps for attaching the transmitter onto the fork in the event I take it off, change forks, etc. and as you've noted, there's no backlight.

I asked Tim @ Branford Bike http://www.branfordbike.com and he said there is a replacement strap kit for the transmitter and its part number is CY-6563.

Hope that helps.
