8 spd front derailleur w/ 9 spd setup?(3 posts)

8 spd front derailleur w/ 9 spd setup?Matno

Are the 8 speed derailleurs wider to accomodate the wider chains? Are they interchangeable? I would assume that if my front is setup with friction shifters, it would be no problem, but I'd rather have index and want to do this right.

I still have an older DA 7 speed front derailleur (friction) on my C'dale with a 9 speed indexed rear. I also have the new DA front derailleur (with STI shifting) on my Aegis. They both appear to have about a 13mm space between the rails. I don't think you should have any problems.

Also had to file down the end of the bolt on the jockey pulley to keep it out of the spokes. My wife can now use it with 9 spd levers and cassette. It was a little tough to adjust the first time, but now it works for her and she's fussier than I am.
