Am. Classic hub maintenancePaulCL

I have a set of Speeddreams with a front Am. Classic hubs.

The hub has what appears to be a grease port on the body. Can I inject grease into it or do I have to rebuild it like other hubs. Are AC hubs any different when it comes to lubrication? I'm not having any problems now, but I have recently been caught in a couple of heavy downpours and I want to head off any problems.

Thanks. Paul

very thin grease
buy some at

if you use anything else, the hub will have so much friction it will barely turn. yes you just use a grease injector.

I have a set of wheels with AC hubs. I use Pedro's Syngrease with a grease injector you can get with the grease.

About a year ago I talked to the folks at AC to find out how often I should grease the hubs. I did not get a straight answer; they would not even give me a ballpark figure.

After a ride in the rain, I grease. After every 200 miles or so, I grease. Just pump it in until good, clean, grease bleads out the sides of the hubs. It's less messy if the wheel is off the bike. If the port is dirty, clean it with a q-tip or something so you don't force a little grim in with the grease.

AC rec'd greasing every 1000-3000 miles. Like that's a lot of help. I want to do the same for my campy hubs. Thanks. Paul

I use Pedros Syn grease per AC's recommendation. Again, per AC, I pumped them full right out of the box until the grease began to weep out the side. After about 1500 miles I gave them another shot and grease weeped out again. To make a long and boring hub greasing story short, I think I could have waited another ????? miles, but felt better knowing one squirt proved everything ok. I bet that front hub weighs a bunch more than 68 grams with all that grease inside. :-0

and bought the pedros grease injector for $16..plus bought some Accelerade, tri-flow and two tubes. As of the end of Feb, I had $150 of CC GC's stockpiled from a birthday and Christmas - now they're all gone.
