I am trying to customized my track bike. My question is, can you use road rings(narrow, sharp) with track chain? My instinct tell me that's not a great idea. anyone can give me a good explnation?

|Are you using the bike for track racing or training on the street? Are you running a single speed chain (1/8") or a multispeed chain (3/32")? If memory serves me well - you CAN use road rings with a single-speed chain but not the other way around. If you are racing the bike, I'd stay with what's been working for you and just upgrade components as needed.|

|Thanks. I am using the bike for spinning. However, I need smaller chainring in the front. I already have 1 1/8 chain. But I can find only a road ring of the size I am looking for. I guess that will work according to you.|

|The 1/8 chain will work, but will destroy your ring. Go to www.sheldonbrown.com. They have fixed cogs and rings in most tooth configurations for both sizes. For spinning they recommend the smaller chian. You'd kill one of those chains on the track...

|I don't know if it's any beefier than their 9spd chain, but they do have a 3/32 track chain. I've got it on my track bike. It came with the DA track group, and has "narrow" printed on the side of the plates.
