9 speed Ultegra short rear derailleur cage on a 27 tooth cog?jkoshi

The hills of SF have forced me into a 12 x 27 set-up. But my rear derailleur cage seems too short to handle the 27t cog. Are there adjustments I can make or do I need to get the long-cage derailleur? On nashbar there are 2, short and long, but it says that the long is for a triple (I'm riding a double). Anyone have any more info on this?

I too run the 12-27 with an Ultegra short cage in the SF Bay area. All you need to do is possibly add another link to your chain an adjust the "B screw" The one that adjusts the for and aft rotation of the entire der. assy. Check a set of Shimano instructions that come with any rear der. and you'll see an exact procedure of how to do it.
