HELP Bottom Bracket for Dura Ace(9 posts)

HELP Bottom Bracket for Dura Aceksfacinelli
Apr 11, 2002 11:04 AM
I have an older tapered bolt Dura Ace crank I would like to use in a 9 speed setup. Does anyone know the spindle with required to make the chain line work correctly?

Thanks,

Kevin

You should be able to stick with the crank and BB that you already have - afterall the 9 speed cogset has the same dimensions as the 8 speed, but the cogs are closer together so they could add one more. What you should get is the 9 speed inner chainring - it's spacing is a little closer to the big ring and the chain will shift smoother. Getting a new front der. is nice, but you can get by with and 8 speed. Go to www.bikeworld.com (or similar) and look for the 9 speed conversion kit.

Model 7410 103. mm BB width should do the deed. This is for a D/A 7410. Get back to me if you have a different crank #. Look on the arms for the model #.

You could put together what you have (assuming the tapers match) then use the Park Chain Line Guage to measure how close you are to ideal which then gives the the amount to add or subtract from the new BB. I know this doesn't answer the question directly, but you should verify in any event.

Yes,

I have a 7410 crank that was matched up with a Chorus BB 68 103 and the chain is a HG93 and am getting rub on the inside of the crank...I don't know if it it the chain or maybe the BB width.

Please email me directly to work through:

Thanks,

Kevin

The square of the taper on the Campy is smaller at the beginning than Shimano. Using shimano cranks on a Campy BB will allow the crank to pull up further than desired. The bb spindle will frequently pull up even with the bottom of the crank arm puller hole. This will mean tht the crank is not tight enough either as well as being laterally misplaced. Pull the crank bolt and see if the bb is hitting the washer or bottom of the bolt. Get a 103 Shimano bb, that will be fine. The crank will be further out.
