|Do Open Pro rims still click?||DY|

|A lot of the people reviewing the Open Pros complained about a clicking noise. One explained it as a piece of aluminum that was put in at the joint during joining and welding. Sometimes it comes loose and clicks each time the wheel goes around.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Is it still going on?
Do other Mavics like the CXP33 also suffer from this?
Thanks. Im thinking of building up some all around wheels with Chorus hubs and Open Pro or CXP33s.

|The problem is attributed to spoke eyelets, to metal left inside the rim during manufacture, and to the joint issue. Many cure the problem with a drop of lube at each spoke nipple, so the tramp metal idea is not completely supported. The problem is not universal, and you only hear about problem wheels, so there's no way to know how prevalent it is. You only seem to hear about it with Open Pros, but that may be because it is such a common rim among people who frequent these boards. Try a Velocity Aerohead rim: just as strong if not stronger, a bit lighter, no eyelets, reasonable price, and a good reputation.|

|Three bikes with OP rims in our household, and plenty of miles. I've heard the rumor on the internet, but never seen/heard it, from club rides or anywhere else. I still think they are rock-solidy.|

|I have also a pair of Open Pro, turn run very smooth and make no noise. Great rims...

|I'd like to find someone local (San Diego) or close. Just because I think it would be easier to build a relationship and stay with them over the years.

|I have "witnessed" two Mavic Open Pros clicking as they turned. Both were front wheels.
In the one case, two spokes were loose and the problem was solved by bringing them back up to proper tension and by retruing the wheel.
The other case was because the entire wheel lacked appropriate spoke tension. Once the wheel was made appropriately tight, the clicking stopped.

|I've got 2 sets of Open Pros on different bikes. Both developed a click or creaking noise at one point or another. The problem was readily solved by putting a small drop of oil on each eyelet. Click went away immediately and hasn't returned.|

|I've recently build two wheel sets with OP rims and so far they are completely quiet (except for the King hubs, but that's another rant). My LBS warned be about the clicking noise and said it was due to a metal brace used at the joint that sometimes comes loose but doesn't hurt the wheel. He recommended the CXP 33's instead, but I was looking for light weight for these particular wheels. So far no problems and BTW I like eyelets.
