Drop a rear brake about 1/2 inch..any ideas?...more...sprockets2

This is an old steel dawn-of-the-hybrid-type bike with tires that say 26 inches but which apparently doesn't actually accomodate a modern 26 inch rim-the brakes are about 1/2 inch away from the rim. So, I need to leave this solid new wheel I've built on there as it is for a huge guy, so I need to move the rear brake down to accomodate this rim. Any ideas on where to find a gizmo, or alternate suggestions? Thanks.

you could also look at his article on wheel sizings. Had you looked at this BEFORE you built the wheel, you would've known that there are several different "26 inch" rim sizes. Oh, BTW, the rim diameter was most likely stamped on the rim, too.
