|They are anodized. The only way to remove the scratches is to completely sand down the levers. I've done this with an old pair of crankarms and they look great but since the anodized is gone, they need to be polished a lot more often.
Start with around 300 grit paper(wet) and work your way up to 1500 grit. Use metal polish to remove the final small scratches.

|Dave's got the process of polishing down. I bought a brass refinishing kit at Home Depot for a brass lamp that has a spray lacquer coating that should work for aluminum as well as brass to protect the finish. It wont be as hard as the original finish but should help some.|

|If you Brasso that mother like heck everyday, it'll be gone in a week. Trust me, that's what I did to my belt buckle, which had a deep scratch. I didn't Brasso it everyday though, just once a week for inspection for about 6-8 weeks.|| |
