Salsa Hbar sizing question(10 posts)

Salsa Hbar sizing questionCT1
Mar 16, 2002 5:15 PM
I'm looking into the "Poco" bar to shorten the reach for a friend and can't find the sizing criteria for these bars.

Are the Salsa bars sized CC or OO?? Also is the Poco the best Hbar choice for shortening the reach??

Go to you will find actual drop and reach(not manu) for a lot of bars. I chose 3ttt to shorten my reach and am very satisfied.

I use TTT bars (199's) myself but I think the Salsa Poco has a shorter reach and drop than any of the TTT bars. The Poco bar is listed as 7 cm reach and 14 cm drop which is the shortest I've found by far.

I just want to know how Salsa measures their bars. On their web site they don't say! :(

I use the Ritchey Biomax II. Stats are listed as reach..75mm, drop..130mm and weigh 240 grams. They come in widths of 38 to 44cm, measured c to c. I have Ritchey bars on all three of my road bikes.

Where did you find the stats on these bars??

The Ritchey web site only lists the "Biomax Pro" with a reach of 82mm.

I also did a web search for Biomax II and didn't get many hits and the only web site that showed it also listed it as an 82mm reach.

Thanks for the info!

John: I got the Ritchey stats from the 2002 Quality Bike Parts (QBP) catalog. I just now measured my Ritcheys with a steel metric ruler and the drop mesurement is correct. I can't measure the reach because the brake hoods are in the way but the stated measurement of 75mm seems to be good eyeballing it. BTW, the QBP catalog has stats for all kind of things besides bars. A consumer version is available from your LBS, about $20.00. The catalogs 680 pages contain a TON of info!

I ride the Pro Road's and they are measured c-c. Can't speak to the shortened reach as I have big hands, but the Pro Road is a good bar and I would expect the Poco's to be same. I think they are a cross bar with flared drops though, may want to check before you buy a set.

John, I use these bars and really like them. they are the shortest reach/drop I could find and they are not a "cross"-style bar, but rather an ergo road bend. I measured mine and as best as I could tell (with tape on)they measure 70mm reach (horzontal distance from top to furthest point of bend (c-c) and 140mm drop from top to lowest flat section of drop (c-c). Width is measured c-c. They are also relatively light at ~139gr. They have a single cable groove, 26mm clamp diameter, available in high polish silver or black bead-blast (I have black).

Hope this helps,

I ordered a 38cm Poco (about 40cm OO) for my friend. This bar should give nearly 2cm less reach which is definately needed.

Thanks again
