Shimano 105 STI Shifter - Inner Lever(4 posts)

Shimano 105 STI Shifter - Inner Leverrmcrae
Mar 13, 2002 4:42 PM
I was wondering if anybody else has been having problems with the inner lever of their right 105 (ST 5500) shifter / lever. I have a 2000 set with about only 1500 miles on it that seems to have lost its will to grab (when I push on the inner lever, the outer lever goes with it too). My bike shop says it is shot and that I will need to purchase a whole new set of shifters (something that I am having a hard time believing, especially at about $390 CDN a pop). Any suggestions and to how I might fix it myself? Thanks
$390??? Why so much? Not that expensive of a shifter.Barnyard

Quality Bike Products has individual levers in their catalogue. Just because it's in the catalogue doesn't mean that it's in the warehouse, but I'd sure try before paying for a whole set.

Have you made any effort to fix the old one? I'm betting a sprits of WD40 and a shot of compressed air will blow out the gritties and fix your shifter for zero parts cost.

Verify that the little screw on the backside of the lever assembly isn't missing to too tight. This is the Achillies Heel of the Shimano STI shifters.

Ain't no way you should be looking at $390 CDN to straighten this problem out. They're probably quoting you a whole new set of levers. Go to www.shimano.com and the Europe section to see the exploaded diagram and the PN for the subassembly.
