|Shimano 105 STI Shifter - Inner Lever||rmcrae|

|I was wondering if anybody else has been having problems with the inner lever of their right 105 (ST 5500) shifter / lever. I have a 2000 set with about only 1500 miles on it that seems to have lost its will to grab (when I push on the inner lever, the outer lever goes with it too). My bike shop says it is shot and that I will need to purchase a whole new set of shifters (something that I am having a hard time believing, especially at about $390 CDN a pop). Any suggestions and to how I might fix it myself? Thanks|

|Quality Bike Products has individual levers in their catalogue. Just because it's in the catalogue doesn't mean that it's in the warehouse, but I'd sure try before paying for a whole set.
Have you made any effort to fix the old one? I'm betting a sprits of WD40 and a shot of compressed air will blow out the gritties and fix your shifter for zero parts cost.

|Verify that the little screw on the backside of the lever assembly isn't missing to too tight. This is the Achillies Heel of the Shimano STI shifters. |
Ain't no way you should be looking at $390 CDN to straighten this problem out. They're probably quoting you a whole new set of levers. Go to www.shimano.com and the Europe section to see the exploaded diagram and the PN for the subassembly.
