Has anyone had a problem with their chain rubbing the inside of the big chainring when in the small/small combo? How can I fix this?

Don't use the small/small combo. It isn't good for your chain. It will cause undue wear and tear.

Agree.
Not as simple as it appears...Crashd

I know not to ride in the sm/sm, but at times it is necessary. My problem is that this also happens from about 5 all the way down to 8. This makes the half-shift from the small chain ring to the big ring useless, because the chain hits the big ring before touching the guide.

I'm assuming you have a splined Shimano crankset. We had a pretty significant discussion of this a couple of weeks ago. Solutions include putting a 2mm spacer under the right side of your bottom bracket or using an XTR 112.5 bottom bracket.

Also, I've seen this problem when one of the chain rings is mounted backwards. I don't think chain rub on the big ring is ever normal, common maybe, but not normal.

Spoke Wrench is right. We had a fairly long and entertaining thread on this issue a few weeks ago. It could have turned into a brawl if we had been in a bar somewhere.
