I was thinking about getting a pair of those high pressure Vittorias. Problem being, my Mavic Heliums are only rated to 120 psi. Is it safe to put it up to 160?

Does it really say your Heliums can't have tires inflated to over 120 lbs? Doesn't say it in the owners manual I got. The rims are standard Open Pro rims (with 24/28 holes). Frankly, I wouldn't worry about it. The ride of 160 psi will be on the rough side.

The only Vittorias I ever tried were the Open King Mario. I bought them because they were yellow (cool) and on sale for $22/tire. They rode very nicely, but didn't wear long. I would have been really angry had I paid $60/tire.

I can't remember the model name - but (risking marketing lemming here), they are 4 ply and 220 tpi, they should be decent tires. Chances are they will be race only - and only for very good road surfaces as well.

If its a race only set up, why not get a set of tubular wheels. You can pump those things up to 200 psi.
