Fixed the SIS Downtube shifter - thanks to Dave Hickey and others

Thanks to all (see Mondays thread). Even the LBS gave it a try and couldn't get it. I then gave it a second try and got lucky. The rectangle threaded unit on the frame was turned slightly so that the SIS piece would not fit into the groves. That was it. I just aligned the pieces and the thing worked.

But then I had another problem (I had installed a new R-derailer cable and housing that started this whole problem). The derailer was skipping gears. After and hour of adjustments guess what the problem was. I had attached the derailer cable to the outside of the derailer bolt instead of to the inside (cog side) of the fastening bolt. That was it!!!!! Now the 10+ old bike shifts better and faster than ever. Thought some of the guys with older bikes might like this.
Thanks again
Congratulations.Dave Hickey

I think most people who reply on this board have been in the same position and their advise comes from first hand knowledge. I've spent many days trying to figure out why my shifters didn't shift. Good luck and ride safe.
